Snow and cold

Where does the snow go?

Every roof in Central Oregon is designed for a snow load set by code for that location, and it rises quickly with elevation. The design question is also where the snow slides, drifts and melts.

Three questions.

Load

Designed by location

Ground snow loads come from the state’s snow load map by latitude and longitude. Homes above Bend toward Sunriver and the mountain carry much more.

Slide

Away from doors

Metal roofs shed snow fast. We place entries, walks and driveways where the snow won’t land on them, and add snow guards where it might.

Melt

No ice dams

A well-insulated, air-sealed roof with ventilation keeps the roof deck cold so snow doesn’t melt and refreeze at the eaves.

Sixteen pages: a wildfire-zone diagram, honest cost per square foot, a timber-frame page, and the Oregon CCB number on every page because the state requires it.
