Replace the panel, or upgrade the service?
They’re different jobs. A panel replacement swaps the box. A service upgrade makes the whole connection to Xcel bigger. Many houses need the first and not the second.
Three answers.
Same amps, new box
For panels that are full, damaged, or one of the brands with a known history of failing breakers.
More amps
New meter base, new service conductors, utility coordination. Needed when the load calculation says so.
Neither
A device that keeps a big load from running at the same time as others. Often the cheapest answer.
Panels we replace on sight
Some older panels have well-documented problems with breakers that may not trip when they should. If we find one in your house, we’ll show you what we’re looking at and why, and quote replacing it. We won’t pretend it’s an emergency if it isn’t one.
What a service upgrade involves
We coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with Xcel Energy, replace the meter base and panel, upgrade the grounding, and pass the city inspection. Power is usually off for most of one day.
