Rebates and credits
Xcel Energy has offered Colorado residential customers up to $500 toward a Level 2 charger and its installation, and up to $2,300 for income-qualified customers, with enrollment in its Optimize Your Charge program. Programs change, so check the current terms. We itemize our invoice the way their paperwork asks.
The federal 30C tax credit for home chargers ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026.
Plug-in or hardwired
A NEMA 14-50 outlet lets you take a plug-in charger with you when you move, but current code requires GFCI protection on it, and a cheap outlet can overheat under hours of charging. A hardwired charger is simpler and runs cooler. We install both and recommend hardwired for most people.
Asked about EVs.
How much does it cost to install an EV charger in Denver?
Ampersand installs a Level 2 charger for $1,150 including the permit, up to 25 feet from the panel on an existing service. Longer runs and load managers are priced separately.
Do I need a 200-amp panel for an EV charger?
Often not. Many 100-amp homes can add a charger, sometimes with a load manager. A load calculation tells you for certain.
