Heat pump ready

Going electric, one circuit at a time.

Heat pumps, heat pump water heaters and induction ranges each need a dedicated 240-volt circuit. Whether they fit on your panel depends on the math, not the brochure.

Typical circuits.

Heat pump

30–60A

Depends on size and whether backup heat strips are included. Strips are the big number.

Induction range

40–50A

Some newer models run on a smaller circuit, or plug into a standard outlet with a battery.

Heat pump water heater

15–30A

Several now run on a regular 120V outlet, which can avoid a new circuit entirely.

Plan the whole house once

If you’re replacing gas appliances over a few years, do one load calculation for all of them now. It often shows that a load manager and the right appliance choices avoid a service upgrade, and it stops you from paying for the same panel work twice.

Planning the switch? Start with the math.
