Knob-and-tube
Two separate wires on porcelain knobs. Not dangerous on its own; dangerous when buried in insulation or spliced into. Insurers often ask about it.
1965–1973
Aluminum branch wiring
Fine wire, problem connections. Specific connectors fix it without a full rewire.
Any age
Two-prong outlets
Ungrounded circuits. GFCI protection or new grounded circuits, depending on what you plug in.
