We size boilers from the radiators
An old house’s radiators were sized for the house before insulation and storm windows. A new boiler matched to the old one is usually far too big. We measure the radiators, calculate the house’s actual heat loss, and size the boiler to what the house needs now.
Radiators that need attention
Cold at the top: air, bleed it. Cold at the bottom: sludge, flush it. Banging pipes on a steam system: pitch and water level, which we’ll fix. Painted-shut valves: we free them, and we’ll tell you if a radiator needs to come off the wall to be done properly.
