Outdoor kitchens

Cook outside from March to November.

Middle Tennessee has a long outdoor season. A good outdoor kitchen extends it, with shade for July and a heater for October.

What people don’t plan for

  • Shade. A grill in full western sun is unusable on a July evening.
  • Power and gas runs. Planned with the design, not trenched in afterward.
  • Drainage under counters. Water that pools under a kitchen rots cabinets and heaves the slab.
  • Distance to the back door. Every trip for a plate counts.

Permits and licensing

Outdoor kitchens with gas, electric and a structure usually need permits, and projects over $25,000 need a Tennessee licensed contractor. We hold the license and pull the permits.
