Built on limestone. Grown for Tennessee.
Landscape design and construction for Middle Tennessee: terraces, stone walls, outdoor kitchens and gardens, designed for clay and bedrock and built by our own crews.
Middle Tennessee is a limestone shelf.
Nashville sits on the Nashville Dome, where old limestone comes close to the surface under a few feet of red clay. It’s why water sits after a storm, why trees struggle in some yards, and why a patio laid like it would be in Ohio heaves here.
Often thin. We test it and amend it before planting anything we expect to live.
Holds water, then shrinks and cracks in August. Patio bases and wall footings are built to drain it.
Sometimes two feet down, sometimes six inches. We probe before we design, so the plan doesn’t change on dig day.
Design first. Then build.

“They dug three test holes before they drew a line. Two years later the terrace hasn’t moved a quarter inch, and the neighbor’s has heaved twice.”Catherine & Walt H. · Belle Meade
