A roof built to a tougher standard.
FORTIFIED is a construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety. It goes beyond the shingle to how the whole roof is attached and sealed.
What’s different.
Ring-shank nails
The roof deck is re-nailed with ring-shank nails, which hold far better in high wind.
A sealed roof deck
Seams are taped or the deck is fully covered, so water stays out even if shingles blow off.
Locked-down edges
Drip edge and starter strips are installed to resist wind lifting at the eaves and rakes.
Strengthen Oklahoma Homes
The Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Strengthen Oklahoma Homes program has offered grants to help homeowners pay for FORTIFIED roofs, through contractors who are registered with the Construction Industries Board and certified by IBHS. Funding rounds open and close, so check the program’s current status. Anvil is a certified FORTIFIED Roof contractor and we handle the evaluator visits and paperwork.
A FORTIFIED designation can also qualify you for insurance discounts with participating companies.
